Lifetime Achievement Award
PRIYA JAMIDAR, MD

Dr. Jamidar is Professor of Internal Medicine Digestive Disease and Director of the Advanced Endoscopy program at Yale since 2004. He has helped establish Yale advanced endoscopy as the busiest program on the east coast, performing complex endoscopic procedures that are not attempted or unsuccessful elsewhere.

He is actively involved in postgraduate education and has created and co-directed well over 50 live endoscopic workshops as well as numerous other local and regional courses. He teaches and performs endoscopy in several countries overseas including India, Malayasia, Turkey and Kenya.

Dr. Jamidar was born in Nairobi, Kenya and went to medical school at the Queen’s University of Belfast in Northern Ireland. He completed his internal medicine
residency at the University of Connecticut Health Center, gastroenterology fellowships at the University of Southern California and University of Indiana Medical center and was faculty at UCLA before returning to CT.

Medical Education Award Resident
DR. SUKHMAN SHERGILL

  • PGY4 anesthesiology resident at Yale New Haven Hospital, CT.

  • Headed to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston to pursue her chronic pain fellowship starting July of 2023.

  • AIIMS, New Delhi for medical school in 2012 and then moved to US in 2019 to start her anesthesiology residency at Yale.

  • ‘Best all-rounder’ medical student by Delhi Medical Association.

  • Top 10% of nationwide residents in the Anesthesiology BASIC exam. 

  • Harry M. Zutz Memorial traveling fellowship by Society of Education in Anesthesia as a part of which she travelled to Health Volunteers Overseas site at HUMP, Hué, Vietnam for a four-week rotation during which she participated in a POCUS workshop and was involved in teaching of residents at the program.

  • Scholarly work:

    • Narrative review on ERAS protocols and analgesia for gynecologic oncologic surgeries,

    • Conducted a systematic review for trigger point injection therapies

    • Book chapter for First Aid Perioperative Ultrasound for Springer on Ketamine.

    • Presented abstracts at ASRA meeting and served as a member on the resident section committee for ASRA, enhancing her leadership skills.

  • When not working, she enjoys baking and exploring different hiking trails in CT.

Medical Education Award Medical Student
AISHWARYA PILLAI

  • 4th year medical student at the Yale School of Medicine, anesthesia residency at Cedars-Sinai this summer.

  • Elected to the Medical Student Council as a class representative (2016-2018, 2022-2023) and communications officer (2021-2022) on the Medical Student Council, spearheading initiatives to improve disability access in the medical library, install air-conditioners in the dorms, re-establish access to the student gym, and distribute menstrual products in female and gender-neutral bathrooms on campus.

  • She also facilitated the formation of a multidisciplinary team to address food insecurity by enabling students to privately self-identify and receive monthly gift cards and vouchers to purchase groceries and meals at the hospital, respectively.

  • Volunteer HAVEN free clinic, organize training for Nexplanon placement for interested students, endometrial biopsies to patients.

  • First author publications include

    • “Diagnostic Accuracy of Shear-Wave Elastography for Breast Lesion Characterization in Women: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis,” in the Journal of the American College of Radiology and

      • “Comparison of electronic versus phone-based administration of the Quality of Recovery-40 survey after ambulatory surgery” in the Journal of Clinical Anesthesia.

RAMA MAHESH

Rama Mahesh is a member of M&T CT Business Banking team – VP Business Banking Relationship Manager. Rama is a highly motivated, goal focused financial services professional with (20) years of banking experience. She serves the Fairfield County of CT and is a true connector for small businesses every day and is a trusted resource for the Indian community in all of CT. Rama is on the Board of Women’s Business Council of Greater Danbury, the Steering Committee of Women’s Giving Circle, and a member of Indian Association of Western CT.

Rama is a strong believer that “A Rising Tide Raises all Ships”. By rising within the banking industry Rama hopes to be the tide that raises more strong independent women. Rama continues to advocate for multicultural banking and is committed to adding strength and resiliency to our diverse communities across M&T footprint.

  • Committed to the 8-year BS/MD program at the University of Connecticut studying molecular and cell biology.

  • Member of a World Championships-qualifying robotics team since 6th grade,

  • Varsity soccer and tennis, captain.

  • Volunteer, Trumbull EMS as an EMT.

  • Most Outstanding Junior in school, Salutatorian in class.

“I’d love to explore genetics-based insights, from gene expression to CRISPR, with the ultimate hopes of advancing preventive cardiology and personalized health care. Through critical undergraduate biology research and clinical experience, I plan to foster my long-term advancement in becoming a cardiovascular physician. In my free time, I enjoy reading and watching/playing sports. ”

High School Award
KARTHIK PYNENI

  • Senior at Farmington High School and will be attending Stony Brook University, Scholars for Medicine (BS/MD) Program to become a neurosurgeon-scientist.

  • National American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) qualifier

  • National Semi-finalist for the economic Euro Challenge

  • Top 15 National Math Kangaroo Winner

  • Varsity Tennis Team Captain

  • Science Olympiad State Gold Medalist

  • JHU Center for Talented Youth Grand Honors recipient

  • Founder and president of the Science National Honors Society Organization as well as captain of both Science Bowl and Science Olympiad

  • Karthik has also founded an official non-profit organization called GlassesToTheMasses and donated over $90,000 worth of glasses to people in need around the world. Subsequently, he has earned the Gold Presidential Volunteer Award for his achievements

  • In his free time, Karthik likes to play basketball, video games, and hang out with his friends
